Hi, I’m Del. Welcome to my travel journal.
Let me tell you a little bit about me. I am married to my childhood sweetheart, Karen, and the father to our two wonderful children. We live in a small town on Vancouver Island, near Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. I am a lawyer, and a founding partner of Beacon Law Centre, practising in the areas of business law, estate planning, and real estate.
I grew up in Edmonton, Alberta, and moved to Vancouver to attend law school at UBC. After graduation Karen and I spent the summer backpacking through Europe. Some questioned the financial wisdom of that choice, but it was one of the best investments we ever made. At the end of that summer I began articling (apprenticing) with a large Vancouver law firm and was called to the bar in 1992, becoming the youngest lawyer in British Columbia.
I practised law for four years in Vancouver before Karen and I chose the quality of life available on Vancouver Island, which has been our home since 1996. Karen was a well-known TV reporter for many years. She recently completed a masters degree and now works in tourism marketing, promoting our region to the world.
My passions outside of work are spending time with my family, swimming (competitively and just for fun) and of course travel. Karen and I love weekend getaways. We also love to travel with our kids and have completed 12 house exchanges to different parts of the world, including Europe (3x), Quebec and several US cities.
